LASIK Eye Surgery

Improving vision without glasses or contact lenses

If you’re dependent on eyeglasses or contacts, you have at some time contemplated what it would be like to see clearly without either. Of course, glasses can be a fashionable accessory and contacts give the appearance of 20/20 vision, but both can be a hassle. Imagine swimming without splashing about blindly or worrying that your contacts might float away. What if you could wake up every morning and immediately go about your day without first having to feel around for your glasses or awkwardly force contacts into sleepy eyes?

With LASIK, we can make those dreams a reality. For a long time, refractive errors in the cornea causing blurry vision could only be corrected with eyeglasses or contacts. However, thanks to modern technology, Dr. Reinke can use the all-laser LASIK procedure to reshape your cornea, thereby reducing refractive error and often eliminating the need for glasses or contacts.

How Does LASIK Work?

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. Your cornea is largely responsible for directing light to the retina in the back of the eye. The shape of your cornea partially determines whether the images you see are sent to the retina correctly and in focus. If your eye is too long or too short, or if the eye is football-shaped, you may experience far- or near-sightedness or astigmatism. In LASIK, a thin corneal flap is created and then an excimer laser alters the shape of the cornea permanently. Clearer vision is the result.

What is IntraLASIK?

IntraLASIK involves creating the corneal flap using a femtosecond laser instead of the small handheld blade found in standard LASIK. The femtosecond laser allows for greater safety and accuracy. Dr. Reinke always performs all laser “bladeless” LASIK for qualified patients.
